I do wear sun hats and protective clothing during the most fierce daily sun and when I've been out a little too long, but The Vitamin D Cure changed the way I think about sun exposure. Plus, I had really been annoyed with the chemicals in sunscreen and was already thinking about a compromise between chemical sunscreen and too much sun.
Anyway, this book will probably surprise you because it's not just about Vitamin D. It's a lot about Vitamin D, but it's also about magnesium, potassium, calcium, acid/base balance, and activity level. It's about how our bodies work and why we feel sick. And of course, how to fix that.
I'm not a pill popper, so the title kind of turned me off at first. But it's not about supplementing unless you really need it. It's about getting your nutrients naturally, efficiently, and effectively.
Over all, I really liked this book and it has spurred me to make some major changes in our lifestyle. And to look at the sun, our winters, and our diets a little more carefully.

I may need to look into this since my middle son was just told he was low in VItamin D but he is a big outdoor freak.. which really confuses me.
ReplyDeleteIt turns out that what you eat, the time of day you go out and even the color of your skin effects how much vitamin D your body makes and keeps.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely worth checking out.
