Ocean Spray Fruit Snacks Review & #Giveaway

Fruit snacks have been OFF of my grocery list for so long, but somehow my kids end up getting them anyway. They are a favorite of moms and teachers to hand out at school events. So when I heard that Ocean Spray was coming out with fruit snacks made from real fruit juice and natural colors and flavors, it only made sense to give them a shot.

To be fair - I would not buy fruit snacks of any kind for my kids as a regular snack. But I would buy them as a better alternative when I'm asked to bring fruit snacks to school or parties.

And these really do seem to be a better alternative. Looking at the ingredient list, you won't find the artificial colors and flavors you find on most fruit snacks. But you will find Corn syrup, sugar, corn starch, dextrose, a host of preservatives, juice, and "natural flavor."

One pouch has 80 calories, 100% of the Daily Value of Vitamin C, and 12 grams of Sugar. They also have double box tops. My kids love collecting box tops for their school, so getting double is pretty special.

Okay, back to the sugar. 12 grams of Sugar per serving is pretty high, but moms need to know that 1 cup of white milk also sports 12 grams of Sugar (plus some protein and vitamins/minerals.)  You need to read everything!

I would consider the Ocean Spray Fruit snacks to be candy, but a better alternative to the candies loaded with artificial colors and flavors. And of course, this includes "regular" fruit snacks too.

And if you're wondering how they taste, they taste great. They come in yummy flavors like berries and cherries. My kids never thought they were "missing" anything. They loved them and wanted them: over and over and over again!

Want to give Ocean Spray Fruit Snacks made with Real Fruit Juice a try in your home? One Lucky Suburban Jungle reader will win 6 boxes of Ocean Spray Fruit Flavored Snacks (3 of each flavor).

I prefer fruit snacks with something juicy in the center. I do look to see if they offer vitamin C. Email: yona(at)pricelesswriters.com

I give my daughter fruit snack as a treat every now and again. She likes to try all different kinds. I don't worry to much about ingredients as they are a every now and again treat and not an everyday thing.

I do read ingredients! I like to serve fruit snacks at snack time (mid morning and after nap) usually with something like a turkey/cheese roll or a couple of peanut butter crackers.

I try to get the most natural ones out there, but sometimes my daughter wants the ones that aren't too healthy lol.. because they taste better she thinks. I let her have some as a special treat, but the healthier I can find the better.

I don't have kids. I eat fruit snacks occasionally, but not much. I try to avoid most artificial ingredients but do not do it 100% of the time.

I buy fruit snacks from time to time as a treat. My kids enjoy them but they actually prefer real fruit. When I do buy them I don't really look at nutritional content because they are an occassional treat.

We go thru alot of fruit snacks. Carter is 1 and 1/2 and just loves them. And, since being diagnosed with celiac disease 3 years ago, I eat them often also since they are usually gluten free. I have not tried the Ocean Spray ones and would love to. So glad they are gluten free!

My 4 yr old daughter really likes fruit snacks but I feel, generally, that they're devoid of any real nutrition. I use them more as an incentive or treat.

My kids don't get a lot of fruit snacks-they eat fresh fruit daily. But when we're out & about & need the convenience I keep some with us. I watch for low sugar & if there are any vitamins like C in them. Thanks

I eat fruit snacks myself - lol. I do try to make sure they have at least some nutritional value to them before I buy, but most if not all are about the same.

I always try to avoid artificial flavorings, why go with chemicals when the natural way tastes just as good?
