For the most part, I can be realistic and not worry about a little mess. But clutter! No way, no how! I keep a collection in my closet of everything I want to give away. I add to it whenever I come across something we no longer use. I'm always going through drawers and closets, pulling out unused items. Adding them to the bags in the closet.
But.....every time I walk by the closet (or God forbid, open it!) I immediately feel stress bubbling up inside my body. Way too much stress. The same stress I feel when I know there's a drawer or closet that has been forgotten for awhile. I just know there's excess or clutter inside. Aaarrggghhh!!!
Goodwill picks up at our house about once a month. I always have plenty of bags and boxes for them. Sometimes, I put out so much stuff it looks like we're moving! This must mean I have a shopping problem, right? Maybe. But it also means we have two kids that grow quickly. It means I get a lot of things for free (from friends, from this blog, from my outside activities). It means my interests change.
And I can't and won't keep it all. Once Goodwill comes, I feel such a rush of relief. And then I find something that I no longer need/want.....and the cycle of stress returns.
I read the book Pretty Neat in less than a day. It's a quick read. And there are a great many tips and nuggets of wisdom inside. Lucky for you....one Suburban Jungle reader will win a copy of Pretty Neat.
But that's not all: One winner will be selected across all the winners on this blog tour (all the winners from each blog that reviewed Pretty Neat will be automatically entered) to receive a $200 same as cash Gift Card (Visa or AMEX) and $50 worth of Buttoned Up organizational products.
To Enter: Leave a comment sharing your biggest source of organizational stress!

my biggest tip is just say NO- NO to grandma buying more stuff!! LOL I have wonderful family that loves to spoil my children and while I'm grateful, it is a task to control the amount of stuff coming IN the house. We end up donating to a local shelter, taking stuff to Goodwill or sometimes garage selling just to keep on top of it. You sppose I could get them to start chipping in a savings instead for college?? ;0)

My biggest source of organizational stress is PAPER. I've got tons of it I need to not lose, so I strategically place it around my room so I can keep an eye on it. But then other things get piled on top, I forget where I put a certain paper, and it's just a big mess.

my biggest organizational stress comes from my boyfriend and I trying this summer to move in together, combining a furnished apartment into a furnished condo. And we have like no storage space--no basement, no storage closet, no attic.

I am a pack rat, so my biggest frustration with organizing is finding a place for everything I want to keep. And I have a hard time finding good storage containers for special things that I'd like to preserve. I'd really like some way to catalog everything so I always know where everything is without having to search through all my bins and containers.

My best organization tip is always keep rotate your seasonal clothes in and out of your drawers and closet. When summer is over I take all of those clothes and store them in bins and then I replace them with the winter ones when the time comes. It helps keep everything de-cluttered and there's a lot more room.

My husband! LOL he takes anything anyone wants to give away and he also loves flea markets and yard sales. He has gotten a bit better lately...we moved and he had to pack up a lot of that stuff himself..and finally decided to get rid of some of it. My bookshelves and closets are still a mess though. And I don't even want to think about the sheds.

My biggest organizational stress is my whole house! I am organizationally challenged! If I have to pick one area, it is my computer room, which I want to make more of a craft room. My really small bedroom with no closet. Seriously. It drives me crazy. Thankfully I have a fantastic bamboo garment rack (much more aesthetically pleasing than a metal one) to hold dresses and things, but with such a small room it's impossible to feel calm and collected in it when it's not impeccably clean/organized... which is hard to do 100% of the time!

My bonus room which has become the playroom is a mass of toys. It's my biggest organizational stress.
My best organizing tip is to hang a clear flexible plastic shoe organizer on the inside of the coat closet. It's great for storing mittens, scarves, and hats. And, you can slip a piece of paper in the pockets to label if you need to.

I got a new computer desk. I am trying to "organize" my new space. I have NO skills in this area and it is really stressing me out!!
My biggest organizational challenge is my sweetie's hobby of restoring vintage collectibles. There is no dedicated space or storage for the items-to-be-restored, the finished items or the restoration supplies. It all just kind of spreads itself out infinitely everywhere...kind of like tribbles.
Our biggest organizational stress is where to put what you don't have the room for. That and what do you do with all those magazines!
Thanks,
