We are leaving tomorrow

Friday, May 29, 2009

We leave tomorrow for a Caribbean cruise. I'm super excited. This is our first trip without children (in utero or otherwise) in almost 6 years. I am bringing along the camera to capture some of the fun.

My plan....to relax and enjoy the freedom. I expect to eat a LOT, but as usual, a LOT of the good stuff. So probably not too much different from my regular life...well without the cooking, cleaning, or budgeting.

Chocolate covered strawberries beware...I am on my way!

The View

Wednesday, May 27, 2009

I love the beauty of nature and feel so blessed to have a small piece of it in our own backyard. Someday I'd love to own a small hobby farm, but until then I'm loving the view from our screened porch.

You have almost no body fat......

At one of my recent doctor's appointments my doctor found a lump in my left breast. I was scheduled for an ultrasound the next day. I wasn't really nervous until I pulled into the parking lot.

So with a preschooler in each hand, I stepped into the breast cancer center and waited to be called in by the technician.

After about 4-5 minutes into the ultrasound, the technician said "oh...wow...hmmm". "Is everything okay?", I ask. And she says "oh..yeah, it's just that you have almost no body fat in your breasts.....we hardly ever see that". *sighs*

So as it turns out....I have almost no fat in my chest and so I will always feel the lumpy, fibrous tissues that most people have hidden under at least some fat tissue. Thankfully, I am cancer-free!

My sister's solution....she asked me "why don't you just gain some fat there". Oh if it were so easy. :)

3.8 Miles

Today I ran 3.8 miles. I'm working toward breaking the 4 mile mark without cutting into my warm-up or cool-down time. It used to be tough to break 3 miles, so I'm making progress.

Coincidence?

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

Today while my children and I were caring for our blueberry bushes, a bird dive bombed my head and defecated in my hair.

Ordinarily, I'd think it was just an accident, but this is the 4th time a bird has used me as a bathroom. I've been hit on the head twice, once on the shoulder and once on the arm. And all in different locations, once even out of the country!

Talk about lucky!

Clearing Buckthorn

This weekend we spent 2 1/2 hours clearing out any new (and 3 rather large) buckthorns from our forest. This is all that is left.

We dug out hundreds of plants. The entire family was able to help. I dug the small plants and our children brought the plants to the fire pit. My husband chopped out the larger plants, worked on some erosion control, and lit the fire.

All in all, it was a job well done. Who says you have to run on the treadmill to get a quality workout...well sometimes I do, but I was quite happy with today's exercise.

6 Doctors and Counting

Today I had yet another doctor's appointment. Just like the 5 before, she came to the conclusion that there was no answer to my symptoms. She said we are back to MS and she referred me back to Neurology (again). After coming to the same conclusion (or non-conclusion) every time, I think I'll go just continue my old plan...keep my inflammatory levels low by exercise and diet.

I'm really quite frustrated and I've spent far too much money on medical visits and tests.

On a positive note, my CRP levels were almost zero, which means almost no inflammation. My symptoms have been manageable lately and sometimes non-existent so I feel like the changes I've made have been helping.

I love Berries!

Our Strawberries have flowers this year! I hope that means they will make berries.

Welcome to The Suburban Jungle

Welcome to The Suburban Jungle. I am a stay at home mother of two that loves everything about living in the suburbs. It doesn't have everything that either the city or the country can offer but it's a great mix of the two. I'll be posting on our various experiences in this "jungle".

It's like a Jungle out Here

Just today my children and I were walking in the forest when my son stopped to listen to the birds and insects singing. He commented "It's like a jungle out here". It really is, and it's so beautiful.
