While it might not seem like a big deal, one time I managed to burn grilled cheese. Then my (now) husband told our priest who in turn, shared it with everyone during our wedding.

We all get a good laugh out of it now.

My worst food experience was when I tried to grill a turkey for Thanksgiving and the whole grill went up in flames. Had to use a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. The turkey (of course) was a total loss, but we had to laugh about it.

Not too long after my husband and I had gotten married I decided to surprise him with a fancy meal when he came home from work....instead I burnt the chicken along with the teflon skillet it was cooking in and when he got home the entire house was filled with really bad smelling smoke. We decided to eat out that night.

Gah! My "lentil surprise" that I made two weeks ago just about takes the cake. It smelled and looked delicious. My brain was thinking, "LENTIL! SPICES! VEGGIES!" In my "my husband is away and I can actually make a vegetarian meal and enjoy it" haste, I ended up with a big pot of crud and a run to McD's. :( (ilovetea[at]hellokitty.com)

My worst cooking experience. That would have to be when I was sick and on medication a few years back. Hubby was working late and kids were very hungry. So instead of telling them to be happy and raid the cabinet for junk. I insisted on cooking something for them. It was horrible. I don't know where my mind was but it wasn't on cooking. They ended up eating PB sandwiches it was so bad.

I was 15 years old and wanted to surprise my family with dinner and decided on making Mongolian Beef. The recipe calls for "hoisin sauce" which is a Chinese BBQ sauce. I had no idea and since "hoy seen" means seafood in Chinese, I thought it was asking for the ground shrimp paste my mother keeps in the fridge. I used the shrimp paste and the beef came out a "gray color" and totally inedible. My parents managed to choke down a bite each because they didnt' want to disappoint me.

Now several decades later, I have a HUGE jar of "hoisin bbq" sauce in my fridge and can laugh about it.

Cue my wonderful girlfriend making another trip to the drugstore, and me laughing at my stupidity while in agony.
