Cat Toilet Training

What's Cooking at DD had a great idea - toilet train our new cat. I'm excited about the possibility and am eagerly reading everything I can to see if this healthy and possible. Wish me luck!

My cats didn't go for this. But, they were older (2 and 4) when I tried. They were fine with the first level (no hole). They got mad however when I put the next level on. They got so mad that they started going potty outside with the dog- which is fine with me! I think it might work if you start with a younger cat. I would suggest getting the set with the larger amount of rings/levels. It wouldn't be as big of a shock as the 3 ring system......

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I'm not sure what to expect from a young kitten. Actually our kitten may be more of a teenager, lol, but I think it's worth a shot. :)

I'd love to hear any and all advice on the topic.

I've been slow walking my cats, and we're about 90% there. After watching the video, I'd caution to make sure you use a litter that is non-clumping and flushable. My cats DIG through the litter, and I strongly suspect that litter will get kicked into that middle hole.

I'm using a slightly different technique that involves a metal bowl of litter in the toilet. I'm looking forward to the day when I can live a litter free life!!

Here's the strategy that I'm using: http://www.karawynn.net/mishacat/toilet.html

Current status: Hobbes will go with 4 paws on the toilet. Daisy will go with 3, 4 if I move that last paw up. Next step - get them to 100% four paws, then start to decrease litter in the bowl.
