Here's the recipe I use for Whole Wheat Pizza Dough:
1 Cup tepid water
1 Tbsp yeast (or one packet if you have packets)
1 Tbsp honey (or sugar)
1 Tbsp olive oil
1-2 Tbsp spices (I usually use a mixture of oregano, basil, red pepper flakes and thyme)
2-3 cups whole wheat flour
Combine the water, honey, oil, and yeast. Then add your spices and slowly add 2 cups of flour. Mix it all up and slowly add the remaining flour. You may or may not need all of it. Knead the dough until it's nice and smooth (8-10 minutes). Then place it in a bowl sprayed with oil and spray the top of the dough.
Let it rise until it has doubled, then cut it in half and use it to make 2 thin crust pizzas. Or leave it whole and make one monster thick crust pizza.
Flour or oil the pizza pan and pre-bake the crust at 500* for 5-6 minutes. Then take it out and add your favorite toppings. Bake at 425* for 10-14 minutes more.
**A few tips** After you have pre-baked the crust, let it sit on the counter to cool, then wrap them up (or fit them in a ziploc bag if you made smaller crusts) and pop them in the freezer. They freeze great and since they are pre-baked, you just need to throw them on the pan, load your toppings, and place them in the oven when you're ready to use them. You can also freeze the dough and defrost just like bread dough...then use at your convenience.
This is a very basic pizza crust. You can use it to make thick or thin, whole wheat or white, spices or no spices. It will work anyway you make it! :) It's so easy and so inexpensive! Enjoy!
